Hi,
I'm planning on applying to participate in a medical mission for Feb 2010, I'm a bit concerned about the recent warnings for American's traveling to Honduras. Are there any of you out there recently back form Honduras or planning on going soon?
Any updates would be greatly appreciated.

Re: La Ceiba, Honduras
I have not been to Honduras recently, but have actively followed events there, as I had intended to take my 17 yr. old grandson there this month. We are not going, as it just isn't worth it to me to even be involved in a road block, which is about the worst that has happened to any tourist this month.
This said, I would strongly advise you to continue with your plans for next February for two reasons. First, the next Honduran presidential elections will be held in November of this year, so the current problem should be solved. Second, any medical mission, with which I am familiar, is extremely well organized by people who are very familiar with local conditions. The last thing anyone would want would be for a medical team to have trouble, or be put in any danger.

Re: La Ceiba, Honduras
My application for the Medical Mission has been accepted and I'm planning on arriving in La Ceiba in Mid Feb for two and a half weeks. I'm sure the 2 week mission will have me quite busy and tired. My friend and I are planning on spending 3 extra days to enjoy some relaxing beach time.
Right now our plans are to ferry over to Roatan, however, I would love to hear from you all as to which area is convenient to the La Ceiba or San Pedro Sula airports for a few days of beach time.
Looking at our travel plans the least expensive way to get to La Ceiba from Seattle is through the San Pedro airport. We have the option of taking a bus with our medical team to La Ceiba but are trying to figure out how to spend our free time and get back to Seattle. Maybe take a hopper plane from Roatan to San Pedro???

Sosa Air flies from Roatan and Utila to La Ceiba, and I think San Pedro Sula too.
Continental flies from Roatan direct to Houston.
