Re: how do you stay focused
To be honest, I can't stay focused. My work productivity has decreased dramatically once I decided that I was going to quit my job and travel. Now it's a few months away from going on my trip and I can't focus at all. This goal of traveling has consumed my life; it's all I think about.
When I decided to go on my trip, the hours I worked gradually started increasing and the money I was spending has decreased. I want to take-off so bad that I'm considering getting a third job for these last for months to get every last bit of saving in as I can.

Sitting in my cubicle ... lost ... saving for "the big day" ... 2010 ... oh yes, it will happen ...

Re: how do you stay focused
My husband & I are saving for our RTW trip in 2011. To be honest, we started saving 2 years ago in hopes of leaving in 2010, but the trip has been postponed because we were spending a bit too much on the things we really don't need. I'm happy that it happend that way because it has given us more time to plan and really figure where we want to go & how we plan to get there.
As far as staying focused, all I do in my free time is search travel websites: looking for ideas and suggestions from fellow travellers. Obviously, it makes me want to leave now, but I've learned a lot & I have other resources that I know to go to once we're on the road. So, I'm not sure if this answered has helped at all, but I just know that you're not the only anxious one out there!!!!

Perhaps just try to stay focused on your goal of taking the trip and remembering that working will get you to be able to travel. Rather than thinking about the job as keeping you from doing what you want to do think of it as a means to an end.

Re: how do you stay focused
I bought a map of my next country that I am going to (Australia) and hung it up on the wall in my living room. That reminds me everyday why I am living in this crappy city. Then when I really dont want to go to work, I just think of how much I am going to make in this day and think about what that will buy me when I get over there.
For example: today I am working for the train ticket from Adelaide to Kalgoorlie.
This is just what I do to continually remind me.
