You will be in Sydney in 23 hours, or you will have 23 hours in Sydney?

If you have only 23 hours, I'd recommend you catch the Sydney Explorer Bus. It's the quickest way to see the tourist attractions. Stay on for the complete circuit (takes around 90 mins) then get off at the stops that interest you most. There's 24 of them.

Good luck, have a nice time.
Cheers.

Possibly the most rewarding activity would be to take a ride on the ferry to Manly and enjoy the panorama of the harbour.

Thanks Whistler & Groo.
I will be in Sydney staying a couple of blocks from the harbor, next Monday for 23 hours between flights then up to the Cape for 3 weeks and back in Sydney for an overnight on November 6th. It doesn't leave any time for discovery so I was hoping to get the top 3 things to do from people who know the area. I should have been more specific, how about:
Top seafood/thai restaurant? Not necessarily the most expensive?
I know it is a Monday night but is there a good live music spot?
Best view - How is the Sydney tower?

thanks

If it's warm, I'd say Sydney Harbor to check out the bridge and Opera House and a quick trip to Bondi Beach if the weather is nice (you can watch the surfers, or beachgoers in general, and it is one of the prettiest beaches I've ever seen). Of course I didn't get to Manly, which was recommended to me as well.

I'd pick one area of the city for the morning, and one for the afternoon. Just don't try and see it all, it is much nicer to get a feel for one of the neighborhoods than drive through them all on a bus.
