Hello knowledgeable interweb people. I have searched these boards for posts on toiletry kits, and I've scoured REI and other luggage retailers. I'm not quite finding what I need (or I'm not recognizing it when I see a miniscule or undetailed picture of it), so I thought I would directly solicit recommendations. I am looking for a compact toiletry kit/bag for a 7 month (maybe more, but at least 7) RTW trip. Some of the Eagle Creek and REI ones look too long or too bulky to me. Am I wrong? Assume I have a 60L pack. Assume I will carry the average amount of toiletries for a woman (i.e., I'm neither a purist nor a product junkie; I will carry the basics, plus a few of the girly extras like moisturizer, a bit of conditioner). I would like it to hang and have multiple compartments for organization.

I really like this one for a couple of simple reasons. It hangs up, has nice little sections, and most importantly is almost non-existent when empty. It has no structure of it's own that uses up your precious space. The main con I can think of is that it doesn't seal up to protect from accidents spilling over into the rest of your pack.

I use a bag that is rectangular and has fiber reinforcement, along with a waterproof zipper. It has about a two quart capacity. I bought it in a camping supply store, perhaps REI.

Course, I'm a guy and I just shove everything into it willy nilly. It doesn't hold large shampoo bottles, but I usually buy them when I arrive, and then leave them after a week or two.

I used to have the eagle creek koala and I didn't think it held up well nor was it very versatile. In fact, I never liked any of the ones I found at REI or any of the other well known camping stores. I found a cheapie at Cabela's that is slightly bigger with some kick butt pockets for all your stuff and it zips up completely, which makes it really traveler friendly. Unfortunately, I cannot find it on their website so no linky. Maybe if you have a Cabela's in your area, you can try looking there?

I AM a product junkie and I have the koala. I had it all packed up for a trip to China at the end of August and everything fit. Unfortunately, China didn't grant my visa so I didn't get the chance to use it on a daily basis. I'm scheduled again to go to China for the month of November and intend on using it then. I'll let you know how it works.
A month long-trip,for me, is good to see how it works. My goal for my RTW is to be able to pack enough toiletries to last a month (or at least 3 weeks). I don't want to spend all my time shopping for daily toiletries.

I use a plastic bag, as I can't be arsed to bring along anything more than a tube of toothpaste, toothbrush, and a loofah. I buy small bottles of soap and deodorant along the way and since I shave my head bald when I travel I don't have to worry about shampoo or such. For shaving the face and head I noticed that most countries still offer a shave at a barber shop so I tend to treat myself once a week to a nice lather up and a shave.

I use a Lewis N Clark hanging toiletry bag and like it pretty well. I think it cost me like $12 on Amazon or something. It’s meant to fold up onto itself and clip shut but you can also pack it flat, which is nice if you’re packing quick in the morning and just need to throw it in on top of everything else. I don’t know how long it is, but if the bottom compartment isn't expanded it's short enough to lay flat in my carry-on sized bag. It holds a good bit of stuff too. The only downside is that if you cram too much into it, it’s difficult to fold up, but that’s not really the fault of the bag.
