New Years in Brisbane

Postby GetMeLost » October 30th, 2009

Well after some set backs, my September arrival has been pushed to late November. My plans will put me in Brisbane for Christmas and NYE. I'm hoping that the helpful members of this board can point out some events that may be worth looking into. I have tried to find info online, but all I seem to be able to find are fine dining and "dressy" events. I am backpacking for at least 2 years, and am not bringing along dress clothes. Can any one offer me some options for a good party or casual events?

Cheers.

Most pubs will have some kind of NYE bash going on, so at the very least you can pick out some good ones and see what they've got going on after you arrive in BNE. Some may require that you dress up a bit, but just looking respectable may be enough.

eg:
* Story Bridge Hotel
* The Normanby
* Regatta Hotel

Some other events:
* Fire Fest
* Cat Power NYE show

Also consider that most of the hostels will have some kind of event going on as well, such as the Base Central (formerly Palace backpackers).

The city may also have a free event with fireworks display along the river & South Bank would be a great place to watch that.

I was in Brisbane last week, stayed in Surfers Paradise.

I must say, I'm not into the bar scene, but it was HOPPING out there, just mad.
Might be worth a trip down the coast to, seems Aussies are pretty into the party thing, so I imagine NYE will be nuts no matter where you are.
