Don't rent motorbikes if you aren't experienced...

This could be you!!

Wrecked a bike within 20 minutes of renting it on a hill in Koh Phangan.

Go ahead and leave your sympathetic comments for me. They will be greatly appreciated. I will take "aww joey" or "hope you get well soon" or "do you need a hug?" from the ladies.

Chicks dig dangerous guys right?

You're honest, I'll give you that. What you should have done maybe is posted about a wicked fight that you got in to with some bad dudes for some noble purpose with all kinds of karate chop action and...

But.

awwww Joey... I'm so sorry that bad motorcycle was malfunctioning. Shame on it!

Give yourself a hug.

Stoo, don't worry man I laughed at myself the minute I got up and realized I hadn't broken anything. Details are on my travel blog. Forgive me for not wanting to rewrite everything. Palms are pretty scraped up. I will say it was my own damn fault sort of. However, I do see jack asses driving really fast and showing off on them and not getting hurt.

wow. When I saw your heading, I had this really bad feeling. I am sure you are still hurting but I still can't help feeling you are just so lucky. At least it sounds like your main plan is to just to chill until after the wedding. Remember to do what you are told and get pretty for the pictures.

Thanks Bill!

I will definitely rest. The nurses were super nice and reminded me over and over that I still looked handsome.

Pictures like this make me glad I didn't rent that scooter in indonesia. I had an idea it might not go well when I experienced teh following conversation:

Q: I've never ridden a scooter before. How is it different?

A: It's just like a bicycle, don't worry

I knew well enough that it wasn't just like a bicycle!!!

Hi

Well, it is a good thing that you were not seriously hurt. If you rent a motorbike abroad you should always be a bit careful...wear protective gear and helmet so you don't get hurt. And also make sure that all the insurance is in order...one Norwegian guy crashed into a Thai on Samui and it turned out that the company where the bike was rented didn't have insurance and the Norwegian was put in jail.

Well, if you never rent a bike you'll never get experience and what's the good in that? The trick is to only rent when it's not so dangerous (not a busy city) and take it easy.

Also, living in Amsterdam has made me a good biker (you know, a pedal bike) so that might've helped. No serious problems.

I rented a motorbike in Peru. They asked if I knew how to ride. I said, 'Of course'... meaning, I knew how to ride a bicycle, I knew how to drive a manual transmission car, and I knew where everything was (throttle, front and rear brakes, gear shift) on a motorcycle... so I figured putting it all together couldn´t be too hard... in the rain.. in the mountains and the madness of city driving in Cuzco... After a quick moment of making an ass of myself by throttling too hard my first attempt out (but recovering!) all else went well, except for taking a little spill after trying to get through some mud too slowly in the mountains, resulting in a cracked mirror. Sorry you didn´t fair as well Joey.

I've fallen off a bike in my time, and it hurt. And it was entirely my own fault. I'd love to be able to ride but I'd take some training first before I got on one again. And wear a lid. But man, glad you got out of it ok, you were lucky. I've been to a few too many funerals. It's not always a laughing matter.

Chicks dig dangerous guys if they get in street brawls or sell crack, but I don't know if being accident prone counts. That cockroach thing happened after the accident? That sounds awful. I am not really afraid of insects so much, but if I see a cockroach I scream like a little girl and get to higher ground...it sounds like you handled it pretty well. Rest up and get well. Smile
