Gas should be the most expensive thing on your list for ongoing costs- $3 per gallon is a bargain and we as NZders would dearly love to access gas at those prices -Gas (petrol) is now around the $NZ1.86 mark. Accommodation (backpackers) ranges from $7 to $34 - any higher and they are asking premium prices even in Auckland. $US3000 is a freaking lot of dosh to spend in NZ even for one month. You could rent a great apartment in the Auckland CBD for that price. Food - you are better off going to "Pack and Save" supermarket to buy from the deli - $NZ15 can feed the both of you and still have a tonne of leftovers. You can drive around NZ for less than $NZ500 per week. Fortunately seasonal fruit work is here and we can earn and travel - vineyards, orchards...
