Three words... GET A JOB.

I agree with Eric, it will honestly be quite difficult to get "sponsored" and have your travels paid for regardless how noble your cause is.

You could get a job, save some money, buy a decent HD video camera, travel a bit and record some of your adventures and/or humanitarian work THEN possibly sell your footage to a news agency, tv station etc.

This is basically freelancing. If you are interesting enough, and the news/tv station likes your footage then they might give you some cash for future episodes. It is a very competitive market; but it can be done if you are a very creative person Smile

Good luck!

That is more of the plan. To really just work and pay for the entire budget ourselves.

Then have sponsors on the side etc. To supply items. Help out abit.

I doubt anyone would fund the entire thing from a corporation.

Working on it.

Anyone interested in pursuing this.

DUDE!!!! Make a reality show about the Peace Corps... seriously I'm not trying to be snarky this time. That is pure gold and my idea from me to you. Sell it to PBS and radio rights to Air America.

Peace Out

Don't let these peeps discourage you too much. There are options. I met a guy in India that was biking from Australia to Switzerland, and he had tonnes of different companies sponsoring him.

his website is: www.alexkaeslin.com

Good Luck!

I was sponsored on a trip once. They gave us team jerseys, and offered to sell us $500 sunglasses for "only" $250.

I don't think sponsorship works the way you're thinking. Unless you're famous, and I mean Lance Armstrong levels of famous, no one is going to pay you to have fun.

I met a woman who paddled across the Pacific. She had major sponsors - but hardly enough to cover her trip.

I've met documentary film crews overseas and here, but they front their own costs and then hope that they can sell their product afterwards.

Those charities you want to work for don't pay you. You pay them, and you often pay them far more to work for them than you would pay if you just stayed in a local budget hotel.

This is a nice fantasy, but, sorry, I can't see it being anything more than a fantasy. In the real world, you need to pay your own way. No one is going to do it for you.

The problem I see with your project is that it looks like you want to do it to travel around the world without paying. I'm not saying that it's what you want to do, but that's how a potential corporate sponsor might see it. I'm not sure of the impact you would have in all these different locations if you stay little time there, maybe you should pick one location to start with, to gain experience and credibility. I'm not saying that you should abandon your project, but you should approach it step by step.

Something that you could do right now is to work for local charities where you live. You will gain exprience and I'm sure some valuable contacts that will help you develop and fund your project. Then you could start by shooting documentaries about the people in need of your own community, once again for experience and credibility building. The competition is huge for TV shows, you better build a name for yourself before thinking about producing one.

If you really want to do it, everything is possible. But don't try to do something too big at first. Start small and build your way up.

That sounds like great work if you can get it. If you have a track record, of producing quality TV it might be a little less impossible. Do you have any samples that you can show potential sponsors? Maybe head out for a short spell, shoot some video of what your show will be like, then approach people.

Leaps of faith ain't cheap. I spend $8K on a trip that I thought would make a good book. I got lucky; a publisher picked it up shortly after I returned. But the odds were against me. I could have just as easily got stuck with $8K in debt. (Of course, we all know that the travel experience was worth way more than that!)
