Hi,

I have been traveling now for 361 days and thought it was time to post an updated picture/list of my gear. I had taken a picture before I started my trip of my gear and almost everything has changed now so I thought an update based on my experiences with my gear thus far would be good.

If you click either gear image the Flickr page has detailed notes for each item. The backpack that carries all my gear is called the BoLL Quark 21L and I actually don't like it very much. I would much rather buy the Gregory Miwok 22L and intend to the next time I find a place selling it where I happen to be traveling.

That is amazing. How do you deal with the cold weather?

I have a 46L and have gone through the hottest and coldest weathers. I could probably do with a 35L or something like that, but 21L is almost unbelievable.

By the way I saw your original picture a while ago and it inspired me to do a similar flickr before I left.

Well cold weather to me is below 0 C which hasn't really happened anywhere I have been. I think layers is important and if I was going somewhere colder I would buy a long sleeve shirt and layer it over a t-shirt and my hoodie and I think that would do me until -15 C probably. I live in a place in Canada that regularly gets -30 C so I am familiar with cold.

I would love to see a link to your Flickr gear page also as I always like to see other peoples gear.

Very impressive. When I was in 0C weather, even with thermals I was cold. If my jacket wasn't windproof I'd have been in trouble.

Here's my original gear, like you I have also replaced some items:

I can't praise the Icebreaker clothes enough. The shirts seem to never pick up any smells. I ended up going with barefoot shoes but they were very hard on my knees, so I bought regular shoes.

Nice job. No Swiss Army knife? What's in the pack-it cubes?

No Swiss Army knives allowed in carry-on.

Indeed about the knife, I own one but didn't take it because of carry-on restrictions. The cubes are empty and get filled with clothes before put in the pack.

Hehe, ya I am only wearing a free towel from the hostel while taking this picture. The only things not in the picture are the camera and my backpack.

What to pack that is the question.
I've found the things that take up the most space and weight are the things you don't wear.

camera and cables, batteries,reader
memory card for backup for photos
netbook and cable
first aid kit
medication, supplements, malaria tablets
tooth brush paste, shampoo, conditioner, shower cap(have long hair)
hand protector (for countries like India etc)
spare specs, sun glasses,
kindle (weighs less than books) have to have a good read
Ipod for my music and cable.
universal plug
address book, passport, air tickets, train tickets, ferry tickets
information on pre booked hotels
drivers license,
Visas plus information on embassies for buying on route
Oh and don't forget the netlace toilet roll, a definate must for some countries
There is probably a few more things which I don't remember at this time.
That's why I backpack with a 4 wheel suitcase at under 20kl
husband has a backpack
