I've had my copy for a week and still haven't been able to wrangle the t.v. away from my kids - damn sponge bob...

I relate to your comments. I'm pretty much in that middle ground as well. I've watched the film and while I enjoyed it, I was definitely more encouraged by the 70-year-old, although we're told at the end that he had a fall in South Africa and had to cut his trip short.

There was a recent story in the Washington Post that featured some more middle year people (late 30s to 40s) who had taken a career break to travel around the world.

Just watched it. It was great! It made me cry more than a few times - not sure why - maybe the music and the tearful goodbyes. Definitely motivated me to get thing moving.

Watched this last night after my copy arrived during the week. Of course, like an eejit I didn't even consider the DVD region issue, so ended up watching it on my pc.

Still, it's a good film, and elicited a lot of the emotions I had during the early stages of planning my own trip, so lord alone knows what I'll be like when I eventually set off. Scared silly I imagine! But it is inspirational at the same time, and a lot of the comments about the motivation to travel chimed with me. I'd recommend it, certainly. Good luck to him.

I just watched the movie, it was great. It brought back many memories (loved the footage of crossing the street in Vietnam) and captured the subtle realities of what traveling RTW entails. My husband chuckled every time Brooks made a general statement about backpacking because we made the same comments to each other on our trip.

What impressed me the most was that I think I expected a film from some rich arrogant American kid with a camera skipping around the world at lightning speed saying "look at me, I'm traveling RTW". But it was not that at all. Brooks didnt even tell us all of the countries he visited. This movie was about relationships - relationships with other travelers, with yourself, with your friends & family back home and your relationship with the world.

Alright, off my soapbox. I have a few friends I met while traveling that I need to send copies to. Smile

hi everyone,
i just wanted to say 'hi' and thank those of you who took the time to watch the movie and comment on it. it strikes me as vaguely stalker-ish to read a message board about your own work but justin gave me this link and its been great to read your reactions. if anyone has any questions feel free to post them and i'll check back soon.
thanks again,
brook

ps - i was surprised to read a comment about dvd region issues for a UK viewer (the disks should work in all regions). has anyone else had this problem?

Yeah that was me. Classic region issues - constant flickering between colour and monochrome, sound problems, unwatchable on my tv basically. I guess it could be my dvd player, I'm not sure - not much of an expert really - although I've never had this problem before. It was no biggie watching it on my PC although my desk chair is somewhat less comfy than my sofa Smile

Hey Ralph,
I think what you’re describing is an NTSC/PAL problem rather than a wrong region DVD (which won’t play at all, not even poorly). That would also explain why it worked in your computer. Newer DVD players and TVs allow NTSC disks in PAL countries so it’s not generally a problem like it was a few years ago.
Anyway, I’m sorry you had to watch from a desk chair on a computer, that’s just not as nice.
