Safe in Rwanda right now?!?

Postby mikeym » November 10th, 2008

Hi,

Is anyone on the ground in or near Rwanda who can tell me if it's currently safe? I'm supposed to be visiting the Volcanos National Park very soon, and it's extremely close to the problems in Congo. I don't want to be caught in the middle if fighting is coming over the border.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

You shouldn't worry. The Rwanda border with DR Congo, as well as Burundi, is/has been heavily patrolled by the Rwandan military. And for your gorilla tracking, your small group of max. 8 tourist, is accompanied by your guide, three trackers and THREE ARMED SOLDIERS. The conflict in Eastern DR Congo has been going on for years, and has just re-erupted. Rwanda is safe, and the gorilla tracking AWESOME! (I'll take your place if you let me HeHe)
