Sailing around the Caribbean

Hello, right now i am currently in the navy but when i get out here in a few years i am thinking about buying a sailboat learning to sail it and living out of it down around the florida keys/carribian. anyone know anyone who has done this before, any tips or ideas, from my understanding of it the only thing i will really have to pay for is food and docking fee's (and i hear they are really cheap)
