I guess lots of booties must have received an email from this travel site. They want to reproduced the articles written for BNA on their site and are willing to provide a backlink to BNA!!!! (ALL WITHOUT ANY PAYMENT TO EITHER THE WRITER OR BNA)
But at least they did send an email seeking permission. This bit I appreciate.
I have just sent a polite email refusing this proposal. The writing style, at least on India, seemed so very different. I am sure that this site too will attract good writers. and that perhaps there was no need to make such a request to BNA writers for their current stories that are already on the net.
wot about you? Did anyone else respond?

I didn’t get any fricking email! Though, the most adventurous my traveling gets is perilous wine consumption and poorly considered bus trips.

Ya know, leaf, I've read most of your stuff, and its seems you got yer adjectives backwards -- the bus trips seem perilous, and the wine consumption ill-considered.

BEE,
What are these "adjectives" that you speak of?

I spoke too soon. They just hit me up for my Prague article.
I'll have to go and take a close look at their site soon.

I think it's perfectly reasonable of them to contact writers on other sites - you can decline as you did, of course, but as far as paying for the privelege, who is paying anyone these days?
I've had a look at the site and they are basically trying to pull together something that BNA has acheived - presence. And to acheive that presence on the web, you have to write a lot of people asking for a lot of favors, ideas, feedback, pity, crumbs and anything else they can provide.

True Gordon. Except for the part of providing a backlink to BNA. Now this did not seem right to me. They ought to have approached BNA instead of individual authors for the backlinking request. And why would one site permit backlinking to its articles, unless it is against a payment?
All said and done, I did appreciate the request made, instead of the shock of googling and finding my articles on another site.
Like I said, I am sure they will find their own set of writers.

Hey Dusty -
Technically the rights to all articles on Bootsnall are the property of the author, to with as they like, so it's seems like a pretty nice idea (on the part of Odyssei) to link back to the site where they came across the author in the first place, especially given the loyalty of many Boots authors.
As for Odyssei finding their 'own' authors, anyone who is interested in writing other than for fun would find it in their best interest to get published as many places as possible. Consideration should be given to the quality of the publication, but apart from that, if you are starting out, why wouldn't you?

True. copyright of the article contributed is owned by us. But not the webpage where BNA hosts the article. Use of html, proper captions etc, given by BNA would be the copyright of BNA...hence I was upset with the suggestion of having a backlink to BNA. Perhaps Sean can step in and explain the nitty gritty.
