Dear all,
I´m thinking of taking a Spanish course in March in a safe country of Central America. I´m also looking for a country where there is a lot to see, mainly nature like rainforest, beaches, volcanos etc.

I was thinking of Costa Rica. Do you know a good school in a great place where there is much to see?

I´am thinking of taking a 2-weeks course and travel around for another 2 weeks.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions and ideas.

You might want to consider Guatemala. You'll get a lot more for your money there re: Spanish lessons than you will in Costa Rica (and I say this as someone who's not a big fan of Guatemala). Antigua and Xela are the two most popular cities in Guatemala to study spanish. There are plenty of travelers in Guatemala and they have pretty good tourist infrastructure. You won't get quite the nature experience you would in Costa Rica but there are volcanoes and Semuc Champey is amazing.

As for Costa Rica, it's definitely expensive there so it depends on how much money you have to spend. And I really can't think of a city that I'd recommend studying in. San Jose's by far the biggest city and lots of travelers dislike it (though I didn't think it was too horrible).

Agree with the above poster on Guatemala or there are hostels in El Salvador that can arrange private lessons, both countries are safe outside the capital cities & offer what you want.

The only redeeming factor I found in CR was lots of buses out of the country everyday.

Costa Rica is awash in English-speaking tourists. So are parts of Guatemala, particularly Antigua and Lake Atitlan. If you're serious about Spanish, I highly recommend Esteli, Nicaragua. International supporters of the Sandinistas came there to learn Spanish during the revolution, and there are still language schools around. It's also very cheap and safe.
