Stupid and Silly Concern for Most..But Serious to Me...
I have a serious phobia of snakes. The thought of walking through tall grass, bushes, and other places snakes are to be found is down right terrifying to me. I've heard a lot of these tours give you tall rubber boots to wear....that just makes me more nervous that these procautions are being taken.
I don't want to miss out on this because of my stupid phobia...but really..will we see lots of snakes? Bushmasters included? Is there a significant risk of snake bite in the Amazon on these tours? Thanks for your help.
Once in a while the guide may say:
Oh look! A snake!
But it will be somewhere in the trees camoflaged, and half the people that say that they see one are probably lying.

It has particular relevance to your situation.
After watching that...consider this --
One way that might help you get over your fear of snakes is to look at pictures of them in a book and on the Internet. Maybe watch a video or two -- from the library or Internet.
Then squeam and squrmish (In the comfort of your own home) , and gasp (Breath heavily in fear) and get as much of the fear out of your mind & body as possible without actually seeing a snake in person. Most importantly, don't be afraid to talk about it -- as you are now. But, I mean out loud to yourself or other people.
Fear is a feeling. All feelings are learned. Meaning you can unlearn it. Fear is also a chemical that can be "worked" out of our systems.
It's a repressed feeling that didn't come out earlier because we repressed it - by distracting ourselves at the time with music (Comfort music), eating something (Comfort food) or anything else that took our mind off of it instead of just "letting it pass."
