Roll Eyes Okay, so Suk 11 is booked this weekend..any other suggestions, I'd prefer to stay in that are, Sukumvit.

Anything good for under $20 USD, with my own bathroom?

Anyone stay at Big John's Guesthouse? I might end up doing that, even though I'll be sharing toilet seats.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. I have to stay in BKK for 2 nights as I am catching my plane to go to KTM on the 28 August.

The big advantage of websites such as these is that earnest travelers share their discoveries with each other.

But where is the adventure in that?

Be the vanguard! Go and seek out some great, undiscovered guesthouse by looking here and report back.
You could be the one discovering the next "in" guesthouse and we will all follow in your footsteps.

Although not in the Sukhumvit neighborhood, this place is supposed to be nice. (I haven't stayed there myself though)

If you want to stay away from all the rest of the Farang you could stay in Lat Phrao. This is where I stayed in Bangkok and I only new about this area of town through the Thai friends I have living there. I stayed in a chinese hotel called Chawamit and it was 500 Baht a night, clean sheets everyday, awesome air con, TV, your own bath room and you even get a free bottle of water every day.

If you are interested I believe it is Soi 54/1 off the Lat Phrao road, you can get there by going to Lat Phrao tube station and getting a bus or taxi heading left as you come out the station (prob East). Then the hotel is on the other side of the road over a couple of bridges. You could also get there by bus from Mo Chit.

I had some of the best days of my life there in Bangkok, and there are no Farang what so ever, you can walk down the street and everyone will litterally look at you as if to say 'what the hell are you doing here' proper Bangkok very different from Ko San. But as I say, I had Thai friends showing me around which made it very easy for me.

Have a gret trip.

Well, to answer the previous post, I do like to go on recommendations because I didn't have time for van guarding.

I'm staying the Sawasdee Sukhumvit Inn, close to the THong Lo stop on the Sky Train.

I don't know why I was so hell bent on staying there, I was a bit disappointed, and thought, well, I am paying $20 USD/night for this?

I don't have a window, and there is 500BT deposit for the key, which I new about reading someone's review. But most of the staff is helpful and the breakfasts are inlcuded in the price.

It's basic and I don't mind paying for my own room and bathroom. THe beds in my double standard room, is a litle stiff. THe rooms are clean, and have hot water, it's the cheapie bathroom style: sink, toilet and a handheld shower with hot water (no cold unless you turn the heater off), all in one are. YOu know, you take a shower and always, the toilet paper gets wet.

THey change the towels and I think the sheets, plus you have a mini bar in the room.

No interet cafe inside the hotel though.
It is only a block or so from the THong Lo sky train stop. Unlike Big John's, which is like a quarter of a mile, or a mile when you are walking with large backpacks. I've seen backpackers slowly walk here to Big JOhn's. Their internet is open 24/7.

thanks for all your input!
