Thai Train Tx Online?

Figure out the best place to stay on Khao San Road in Bangkok and where to escape when you've had enough of the mayhem. From Singapore Slings to the changes in Bejing after the 2008 Olympics, gab about it all here.

Thai Train Tx Online?

Postby MarkCO » September 3rd, 2007

Has anyone had experience with buying Thai train tickets online from ThaiFocus.Com ?

It sounds like I can purchase the Tx online, and then have them send the Tx to Suk11 where I will be staying in BKK- has anyone tried that before?

Thanks for the info-

I have done it twice. I have Charlie Connection get me the train, class (2nd Class A/C) and seat that I want (lower berth, please) and tell them to send the tickets to Suk 11, attn: Anil.

No worries.

Thanks for the prompt response, Static! Smile Also I noticed that Suk11 requires a credit card payment for late arrivals (I will land in BKK at 11pm; likely not to Suk11 until 1am) Have you done that before? How does it work? I have stayed at Suk11 before, but always with just an e-mail reservation, no advance payment...

Cheers!

I've had to do this before. Its perfectly normal. They'll leave your key behind the counter in an envelope normally so you just say who you are and security will give you the key.

Yes , several times before. You have to collect your ticket in person 1 hour before your departure time.

You can book by email at least 15 days before your date of travel by emailing - passenger-ser@railway.co.th

or fax + 66 2 225 6068.

Your fax or e-mail must include the journey, date, train number, departure time, class, seat or sleeper (upper or lower berth), number of passengers, your name and e-mail address, and whether you want to collect your tickets at Bangkok Airport station (Don Muang) or Bangkok Hualamphong station in the city centre. The airport pick-up might have changed now we have the new Suvarnabhumi airport.

They are a bit slow sometimes , but have always come through for me.

Visit http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm#How%20to%20book for all thai train info

or http://www.railway.co.th/English/Time_HTML.asp for train timetables and numbers

I should add that when you collect your ticket in person make sure you have your passport with you , i went a day earlier once as i was passing by , but didn't have my passport with me , so had to go back. Smile

Update: I made reservations via the e-mail link provided at seat61.com on Sept 14 for my Oct. 12 trip and I received a confirmation e-mail on Sept. 24. I can pick up the tickets at Halamphong Station any time prior to 4:00pm October 12. There is a 200Bhat service charge.

Cheers! Cool

Update from Chiang Mai- Train Tx reservations online worked like a charm. If you don't mind the 200Bhat service charge (per ticket) doing the e-mail reservations is the way to go!

Thanks for the great info, Andy!

Cheers!

Cool Smile

It's a handy service for booking tickets in advance. I don't remember the 200 Bhat service charge , but it's still worth it
for easy booking direct with the station.
