Think you know European Geography? Test your skillz

Postby MikaL » September 28th, 2007

Just got an email from the company who built this "game" which I don't think is really a game, but more of a visual quiz.

They say:

"a game where countries identified by their shape and their country code top-level domain alone need to be correctly positioned within a map of Europe"

If you're interested, try it here:
http://www.lingo24.com/resources/games/eurogame/index3.html

Why it's cool:
- it shows you hints if you get things wrong so you're not stuck
- gives you a score at the end
- tells you which countries you got wrong at the end

Why it's dorky:
- how accurately could someone actually put a few pin-prick size countries like monaco?

Ha! 200. I could have done better...made some silly mistakes. will play again when i get disalusioned about something tomorrow at work.

It is also dorky, MikaL, because of the iso country codes Smile

Gah, 186 the first time, 188 a day later. I know where they all are (though sometimes need a hint because I don't know the cctld), but I just can't place the interior countries until I've got a few of the larger things placed for reference.

You are British, darling. Be comfortable with your station in life. Life is so much better that way for both of us! Wink

Ok, third time around 223. (196 the 2nd.)

It's a bit whacky, though, because if one gets a small land-locked country (Liechtenstein, Andorra, Slovakia, etc.) then your score jump after placing it waaaaay off base. So, you are sorta at whim of not only your skills, but the random number generator.

Yeah, that's true. I doubt it if most people can place Luxembourg without having Belgium or France in the map as a reference. Same thing with Liechtenstein with Switzerland, or Andorra with Spain.

I actually got Lichtenstein and Monaco right without any surrounding countries. I was soooo excited!

Only once though, and it was a fluke. All other tiny ones besides Malta are impossible by themselves.

223. Damn you, Vatican City and San Marino. I was off by less than a millimeter each time. Bosnia was also placed a tad too far north. (In fact, the whole of the Balkans made me long for Yugoslavia.)

I'm ashamed to say that in my attempt to beat Michey's recent score I, apparently, got dumber. First score: 223. New score: ahem...lower. Damn you, San Marino. You smite me yet again.
