train tickets to datong from beijing
Hi, I am currently looking to book train tickets along the Trans-Mongolian railway from Beijing to Datong then through to Ulaan Baatar. I was wondering if anyone new a good website or contact to purchase them through. I am having a hard time finding Datong tickets on a website. Thanks.

There are several trains that run from Beijing to Datong. I got a sleeper during the May holiday. My hostel set it up for me, but there is an English speaking counter in the Beijing west train station. The tickets are easy to come by once you are in Beijing. I would just wait until you arrive to get it. Datong is a truly dirty place. I recommend popping in, seeing the caves and the monastery and leaving. CITS will meet you in the train station. They have a 100 and a 225 tour. If you take the 100 tour you end up saving about 20. The 225 covers admission to the sights and lunch; which works out to 35 yuan for lunch. I got it for 15. If you are adventurous you can do it all on your own and save an additional 50 from there. Again, it is definitely worth seeing, but I would not spend the night there.
