Travelex - cash passport

Postby muhanji » November 4th, 2009

ive read many good things about the travelex cash passport, i was planning to get one so i wnet out to try get one today - they have a location in San Francisco - however they told me that that if i loaded it up i could only use the card in Europe and Asia and it would be denominated in Euros or Pounds - i found the answer strange. However they advised me to check online [i had checked online and had gotten the location from the website]

So i get back on the website and try to see if i can get the card online - but the website throws you into a loop without giving you any answers - www.travelex.com also claim many banks and credit unions offer the card - but does not say which.

Does anyone out there know where i can get this card, and given this roundabout is it really worth it ?
i'm not traveling with any credit cards as i don't plan to return to the US and need alternatives to my bank cards.

Ok: apparently, American Express cheques are apparently hard to cash in England. For some reason they make you buy Bank of Barclay cheques for easy cashing.

I've found nothing better than a good bank debit card. They're accepted all over the world, and ATMs issue currency in the dominant one of that country.

American express seems to be good in most of the world, but cashing them can be an issue. You lose some on the exchange, compared to debit cards.

My friends all have their family and friends deposit money for you if you need it, in the USA. It appears to be the simplest solution. Otherwise, get an account in the country you're in, IF you can. Different countries have different rules.

I found it easy in Guatemala, by the way.

If you intend on staying in the USA and are not a citizen, how do you intend on supporting yourself?

How do you intend on exceeding the visa limitations?

It may be possible to get an account here, if you stay here...
