Trekking in Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand???

Figure out the best place to stay on Khao San Road in Bangkok and where to escape when you've had enough of the mayhem. From Singapore Slings to the changes in Bejing after the 2008 Olympics, gab about it all here.

Trekking in Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand???

Postby stouds » August 16th, 2008

Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia.

We will be going through all of the above countries in the above order from Sept. to Jan. Has anyone done any Trekking/Hiking in these areas? I would love to hear about some trails, or experiences! We want to do multi-day hikes on our own when possible but could go with a guide if neccessary. Good Mountains? Jungle Hikes? Rafting trips?

Thanks, any info is appreciated... Wink

Fantastic question, stouds. My wife and I will be getting to that part of our trip around mid-December and we're looking for the same experiences.

I'm keeping an eye on this one.

For Thailand go to Chiang Mai where you will find all kinds of trekking companies with guides. For the mountains in northern Viet Nam contact Handspan Travel in Hanoi. You can google it.

Hello Hello,

I can only comment on Trekking in Thailand. I did my 3day Trek in Chiang Mai, it was a fantastic experience. I did my Trek with Eagle House Everything was professional about the Trek, and it wasn't touristy at all, I actually didn't see any other tourists, just like they promised. I did the Four day in DOI INTHANON NATIONAL PARK. Our guide was great, he was from the area, and spoke the local Hill tribe Language. We ate with the locals, the food was amazing. The trek included Elephant riding, and also Bamboo rafting, which i ended up having to steer! that was an experience. Everything was provided. If you do choose to do your trek in Thailand, then I strongly recommend you check out Eagle house. Also if your interested in volunteering while in Thailand, Annette, one of the owners, is heavily involved with volunteer programs, and will gladly sit down and discuss options with you.

Hope that helps,
