Triathlons & travel...

Postby escapeartist » November 10th, 2006

My new passion is training and racing in triathlons. I still plan to do all my world travels, but extenuating circumstances have unfortunately forced me to put that aside for now. Instead I'm looking for other ways to explore on a smaller scale while still thriving in my sport.

I'm just wondering if there is anyone out there who incorporates extended travels with triathlons. If so, where and when are some races you would recommend?

My sport has already taken me to Hawaii, but how about international locations?

Thanks!

I'm a marathoner, but I'm going to start combining marathons with traveling. It's hard, so I'd recommend bringing EVERYTHING you need--your goos, gels, bars, energy drinks, etc, in case you can't get it.

If there are expos for triathalons (I'm guessing there are b/c there are for marathons!) you can find out about different places to go.

I'm doing the Eugene, OR marathon in April next....and London I also want to do next year. If I can find a good one in July I may do that too.

Yay another athlete that combines their sport with their traveling. running I ran across Europe (for fun, while I was traveling).

Cheers!

I was into tri's before (and now again) my RTW trip and was bummed about giving it up also. One thing you may want to look into is Hashing. It's a great time and great way to meet English-speaking friends in some remote areas. There are "hash-houses" across the globe in the most random of places. Just google the place you're going and then show up!

Here is a link for what hashing is: http://www.gthhh.com/

Good luck!
