Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone knows if a Typhoid vaccine takes effect immediately or if it takes weeks, days months to work.
I'm asking because I am going to Cambodia in a few weeks and realized that I don't have a updated vaccine. Would I be able to get it in Bangkok? Pill form at a pharmacy? or shot?
I've travelled without it in the past because a doctor steered me away from it because he felt it was preventable and if anything did occur it is treatable after the fact w/ antibiotics.
Thoughts? advise?
thanks
Typhoid how soon to take effect?

Inactivated Typhoid Vaccine (Shot)
Should not be given to children younger than 2 years of age.
One dose provides protection. It should be given at least 2 weeks before travel to allow the vaccine time to work.
A booster dose is needed every 2 years for people who remain at risk.
Live Typhoid Vaccine (Oral)
Should not be given to children younger than 6 years of age.
Four doses, given 2 days apart, are needed for protection. The last dose should be given at least 1 week before travel to allow the vaccine time to work.....

Read the whole thing. There are contra-indications to taking this vaccine.
Allow time to survive the side effects, and see a doctor if it gets serious.
