U.S. Embassy in Paris, anyone been?
I'm going to be in Paris soon, and I realized I'm going to need to add pages to my passport. From what I've read, it's easiest to add pages at Embassies/Consulates abroad than applying in the states. Just curious if anyone has done this at the U.S. Embassy in Paris?

My great aunt was a French woman who worked for the U.S. Embassy in Paris and I have visited it several times, although not for intent purpose of getting extra pages in my passport. I would imagine that you will be able to more easily get extra pages added faster at the embassy, as they are used to dealing with most passport issues quickly. BUT, that's just my guess.

I once had to replace my passport in Hungary, I believe. It was so worn officials were giving it second looks. They saw me, checked out my identity in some fashion, took my passport and issued me a new one.
As long as you don't need money, permission to stay in the country, or help of any useful kind that does not involve passports, they can serve their appointed task of adding some new pages to your passport with no problem. VBG.
Seriously, the USA embassies are often less use than you might think, so save them for a last resort, or if you go to them, don't expect much. I suppose they're alright if you ask them for a list of good lawyers that YOU will end up paying, or maybe reliable medical people.

Which, really, is what the embassy is there for as far as travelers are concerned. I'm not sure what you're expecting from an embassy, but it's really not their job to get you out of a tight spot, just to point you in the direction of help.Seriously, the USA embassies are often less use than you might think, so save them for a last resort, or if you go to them, don't expect much. True, but sometimes people expect more out of them, and might depend on them. My experience with other peoples troubles tells me that no one should expect help from them of any real sort unless one already has some kind of pull in the USA government(Executive, Executive in family, corporation owner, family in the Ambassadors office, etc)
I once met someone who blithely talked about meeting with the Singaporean counsel in Turkey for lunch. It turns out his grandfather was a very rich executive with ties to the government. NIce Chap, that one. He liked to talk but he always meant well.

For U.S. Citizens, I can't think of what kind of help one would expect from the Embassy beyond passport services?

Unrealistic expectations of the embassy is one of the difficulties that come with the job. There are certain things the embassy can and cannot do. I'd suggest taking a few moments to learn them. Getting you of a tight spot (that you probably got yourself into) isn't the embassy's job.

I'm not, but my next assignment will have a year of consular work. We all do at least some consular work.
