Ukraine - Odessa Acc

Postby shinzey » July 19th, 2007

hey all!

I've gotten some great tips n info about Ukraine so far from previous posts. Thanks to all of ye!

But i have a wee problem that i'm wondering if anyone can suggest a solution to:

My mate and I are heading to Ukraine for a few weeks on 27th July, we're flying into Odessa but can't get any accomodation for the first few nights (i do realise that i've been awfully silly leavin it this late! Frown) I'll be winging it for the rest of the time, but i would prefer to have somewhere to stay for when we arrive.

I've asked pretty much all of those apartments-to-rent sites, but they're all booked up. Most of them have responded saying that, but that if I still don't have anything when I arrive, to give them a shout and they can sort something (an opportunity to rip me off??)

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Thanks Smile

I haven't been to Ukraine yet, but in most eastern and central European countries, it's easy to find cheap private accommodation. You'll either be met by old ladies with a spare room (though I don't know if they do that at airports too), or through an agency as you allready tried. I certainly wouldn't assume they're trying to rip you off just because they don't have anything availabe in advance.

thanks karlien. you're right, i was probably just being paranoid about that.

i've been to plenty of other eastern european countries and russia a couple of times, so i dunno why i didn't think of the bambooshkas!! i'll just head to the bus/train station from the airport if there're none there.

i'm sure it'll be grand, it always works itself out doesn't it? i should be thinkin about me life motto: "what's the worst that can happen" Smile

I don't know how big of a language barrier you will run into, but finding cabins - more like shacks, might not be a problem. Camping is also something to look at.

It is busy season, but there will be plenty of rooms around. Just make sure you negotiate prices and look at the room first.
