Are they pretty much the same?
I want to bring my carseat over and use it in our hire car.
I have this seat: http://www.productreview.com.au/p/safe- ... n-ahr.html

I don't see why it wouldn't work. If you want to be absolutely sure you may want to contact the car rental company and ask them.

I don’t think there would be any problem but the best thing would be that you should tell the car rental company in advance so that there aren’t any issues later on. You can try hiring from http://www.pointcarhire.com/us/index.html as they offer good customer service and facilities in the same price.

Get this, I booked a car with Europecar and asked them about carseat hire & cost in a follow-up email - because there wasn't a way I could order a carseat during my booking.
I get an email back stating that:
Thank you for your email.
the child seat is requested at time of pickup
for the rate you must check at the counter
thank you
Are they for real???????????????????
So what if I get there and they don't have one? What then?

If I were you (and apologies if you have already done this) I would google australian children's car seats. The rules have changed recently making them a lot stricter (and safer) in many states. I don't know how old your child/ren are but in many or all states children up to possibly age 7 have to be in some kind of special seat.
