Having traveled all over on a backpacker budget, I now have the rather strange task of planning my honeymoon for late May or early June of 2012. First thought was Thailand but I am worried that it will be too hot for the lady to endure without killing me. When I was there before it was in February and I understand it will be about 5 ticks hotter and just as humid. But down at the islands, maybe this won't matter too much. Since, for once I am planning on actually spending $$$ on nice hotels, etc, A/C can make up for a lot of heat. Any thoughts on this and in particular recommendations on islands. I have been to Ko Tao, Phuket, Ko Phi Phi, and Ko Lanta- For a honeymoon, I was thinking maybe Ko Samui and Ko Tao?? Looking for at least one place that feels a bit remote and special and definitely would be planning on spending most of the time on islands in the south.
The other major thought is that this is the perfect time of year to do a honeymoon in the Mediterranean. I love Turkey and was thinking that 5 days in Istanbul and then a week or two down on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey would be phenomenal. But I have only been to Alanya down in those parts and need some ideas for where the best spots are on the Med Coast. Obviously there is Bodrum, Antalya, etc, but, again, I am looking for a recommendation of something a bit remote and special, rather than a big package tourist spot or a spot full of the droves of domestic tourists either. I would love any recommendations or stories that relate. Thanks to yall.

I'll bet good money that you'd have a fun time with both. But this backpacker lady's opinion is that you should head to Turkey.
The reason for this is more based on my opinions, but it's always been my curious detail that while I'm the only woman I know of who hasn't planned a single detail of her wedding yet (or maybe it just feels that way?) I know that wherever I go on my honeymoon I want it to be someplace neither me nor my husband has been before. It's due to a romantic notion that I've been all around the world and have lovely memories of so many places, but at the start of a new adventure like marriage I'd want to go somewhere where the memories of the place it begins are shared by the two of us exploring it for the first time.
Ok probably not exactly the advice you're looking for, but posting it just in case my romantic notions might resonate with you or your lady. And congratulations by the way!

The Med and Aegean coasts are extremely heavily traveled. We had a great time in Kas, which is off the backpacker circuit, but it is a major harbour for private yachts. Good hiking in the area, and there's some awesome kayaking at Kekova, nearby.Goatmcfloat wrote:The other major thought is that this is the perfect time of year to do a honeymoon in the Mediterranean. I'd suggest avoiding Antalya. Out of everywhere I went in Turkey, it was the most commercial and tout-infested (even compared to Istanbul).
If you're wanting some place a little more special, and are willing to deal with slightly cooler weather, the Black Sea coast doesn't see many tourists at all, but there's lots to see. As always, Turkey Travel Planner is the best source of information for Turkey's destinations.

I've been to Turkey, never at the beaches there, and I've never seen thai beaches. But on the theory that has always suited me (A beach with white sand is a beach with white sand wherever you go)
I would pick turkey. Many people had a great time in a treehouse hostel, and you could get a private room in said hostel.
From there, if you get beached out, or before you go to the beach, you could take in the strange and exotic vapors of Istanbul, and yes, even Western Turkey's great selection of Roman ruins, including the very hot spring bath-house that Cleopatra herself swam in 1800 years ago, or so.
Then there is the chance for a romantic sailboat cruise to a beach location, where you relax.
yes, Turkey it would be, for me, especially if Thailand is a hot and humid hell at that time of the year.
Reserve early and make sure you get the right places, of course!!!

According to me Turkey is much better choice. It is amazing hotels at great rates. If you want you can visit this website www.turkeyhotelstours.com. It is for discounted hotel prices. For honeymoon I recommend you Marmaris, Fethye or Bodrum.
