I am off to Vegas for my sister's wedding but Vegas not really my cup of tea.

Am there 5 days which are more or less planned out by family inc. one day at Grand Canyon.

I'm paying so much for flights I'd like to go somewhere else after Vegas (cheap add-on) - any suggestions bearing in mind I'm a backpacker kinda gal and will be solo by that point i.e. Cities or road trips solo not ideally the way to go.

Would love to head down to Central/South America which have done before but the connections don't seem to be there.

Ideas anyone?

TACA has reasonably priced flights from LAX to it's hub in San Salvador where you can catch a bus to anywhere in CA or a cheap flight to Colombia, Ecuador or Lima. Have done the LAX-SAL one & just last weekend did a visa run SAL-BOG, good airline except for their copying the retarded US security BS.

If you are looking for a backpacking, more of an outdoorsy-adventure-type time, I would say that a 1 day trip to the Grand Canyon won't be enough. Could you go back on your own after the Vegas portion of the trip? There is hiking, camping, etc. that I feel if you are the type of person to appreciate that kind of thing, you will want to spend more than 1 day there. Even the rest of Arizona would be cool to explore. Or all the National Parks in this general vicinity of the Southwest US.
