venezuela merida

Figure out the best way to get from Central to South America, when you should book your accommodations for Carnaval and local language school recommendations. If it's on South America, it's in this forum.

the teleferico is NOT working and there is no hope of it operating in the foreseeable future. this means that some great hiking options are not feasable.

the airport is also closed but sometimes flights come in. don't count on being able to fly in or out. the nearest airport, in el vigia, is over an hour away by bus.

there was a lot of rain recently which caused landslides and road closures. as of dec 1 the transandina road between merida and valera had been cut by a slide that took out about 1/2 km of road.

Buses seem to work well when the roads have been cleared.

Its a beautiful ride.

I remember landing at that airport....must have been 1989....I was saying the "Lord's Prayer". Seriously.
Beautiful though!!
