Vietnam, Laos, Camb, Thailand Jan1-Feb20 buddies??

Postby NormM » November 24th, 2008

Going solo to SE Asia.
Looking to maybe travel part of time with someone else.

46-male-adventurous-easy going-non psycho.

I fly into Hanoi Dec 30 and will be in asia till Feb 20-2009.

Im not sure exactly where or what route I will take etc. Just sort of winging it right now.I would like to do some kayaking--non touristic type while there. I have a connection with someone there who has several folding kayaks which can be assembled and taken on planes, trains and autos etc. I have a LOT of expedition paddling and would be willing to have a novice come along too. Im NOT planning on whitewater trips but more calm water.

There is nothing like traveling through a country via its waterways which are the original "highways" of the world. Hoping to stay with local people along the way..possibley the Mekong River and other rivers. Also have a connection to a Nat. Park in SW Thailand where we could island hop nd camp if your interested.

I DONT necessarily plan to paddle the whole time but would like to hike inland--hill country of Laos and Cambodia too if that interest you. Maybe 3-4 days around Ankor Wat too. I just want to maybe hook up with people to share ideas, routes, hostels/bungalows the floor of a houseboat or local villagers home etc. Train travel-rental cars, scooters, kayaks or hitching....

I dont want to see SE Asia like a tourist but more like an adventurer etc. Ive never been to Asia so this would all be new to me and willing to just let whatever happens happen.

Drop me a line, even if Im already there when you read this.

Take care
Norm

Are you still planning to travel and kayak? I'd be interested in talking to you...possible share expenses.

I have 2-5 months to plan and organize...looking to explore thailand, bali, indonesia or new zealand ... looking for low key, inexpensive travel, kayaking/snorkeling/hiking/etc. Just signed up so still need to finish my profile.

Me: easy going, new to adventure travel, SWF, fun also non-psycho, currently living in Boulder, CO...smart, funny, hmm, feel like I'm putting out a date ad... I'll stop short of the physical description for now ... my friends like meSmile

Thanks for the date personal! Just kidding....no worries, I've got a girlfriend anyway....
YEah i'd be interested etc in hooking up sometime this winter.
I fly to Hanoi on the 30th of Dec and leave on the 20th of February etc. Im planning about two weeks each...vietnam, cambodia, laos, and thailand etc. Id like to travel some remote rivers there since ive always found that river travel a person really sees a county and it people...since the rivers are the first highways etc. I have a lot of paddling expereince. Im not looking for whitewater trips but flatwater from town to town etc. I have a good connection there via the net...this guy rents folding kayaks which can be taken on planes and trains etc...He rents them for 30 a day which is cheap. It would be great to so the backcountry and remote villages etc by river...If your interested lets keep tabs etc. He is on an expedition in Laos right now and wont be back till the 10 of Dec. I also have a connection in SW Thailand for kayaking this island national park with thousands of islands. The owners said they would rent me a kayak and camping gear and i can explore all theislands, camp on remote beaches away from others etc...thats my kind of adventure etc.
I have never been to SE Asia and dont know the language either but willing to go anyway...solo at this point. Im not really afraid to travel alone but its always nice to travel with others too mainly for moral support etc and ideas too.
I have a few other things i want to do...likeAnkor Wat, elephant riding, and checking out this monestary where the monks raise tigers. Other than that im not really planning anything until i get there.
I live in Livingston Montana just outside of Yellowstone.
Drop me a line
