Figure out the best place to stay on Khao San Road in Bangkok and where to escape when you've had enough of the mayhem. From Singapore Slings to the changes in Bejing after the 2008 Olympics, gab about it all here.

Vietnam or Cambodia or Laos?

Would love to hear your opinions on which of these three SE Asian countries are best to visit, if we can only choose one. We have two weeks to kill before heading to Australia.. originally was going to go to Vietnam but have not heard good things about it in general. Also, need visas to get into Vietnam but not Cambodia or Laos.

Thanks guys!

depends on what you like to do.

if you like history, cambodia and then head east to the countryside.

if you really want to kill time and do nothing, no place like Laos.

vietnam is more touristy and somewhat "advanced" than the other two, but it has its own charm.

It's a tough choice between Laos and Cambodia. It would be a crime to NOT see Angkor Wat in Cambodia, but Laos was really really nice and relaxing and the people were SO great. I didn't think so much of Vietnam. But like travellingLite said - it depends what sort of place you like and what you like to do.

I'd have to agree with Bideshi. I absolutely loved Laos, but when people ask me what I did there, well, I'm at a bit of a loss. Hell, it doesn't even have a coast. It was more of an overall experience.

Cambodia, on the other hand, has Angkor Wat, which I found to be one of, if not the, most amazing places I've ever visited. I also enjoyed chilling on the beach and wandering around the capital.

I did not really enjoy Vietnam, though. It's the only place I've ever had an all-out shouting match with hotel staff, and there I did it every time I checked out of somewhere. I also grew tired of being constantly harrassed by people trying to sell me stuff.
