BnA Code of Conduct - Help Us Update It!

PostPosted: June 20th, 2006
by JessieS
Now that BootsnAll is growing (and in new directions), we are ready to have our members help us update our Code of Conduct. What is one code, rule, or idea that you think all travelers should live by?

http://www.bootsnall.com/codeof.shtml

For example, one BootsnAll member submitted the idea: "Walk the opposite direction of other travelers. You will find what you are looking for."

If you have any ideas for our Code of Conduct, please submit to Jessica@bootsnall.com, with the subject line listed as Code of Conduct. We plan to pick the top 10 entries and use these to display to future BootsnAll members.

Thanks again for all your help.

Spend a lot of time seeing not much rather than not much time seeing too much and that will allow you to strike up a conversation with at least one local an hour even if they do not understand you nor you them.

How about ‘VISA; everywhere you don’t wanna be!’

No shit! That just came to me! Wow.

Though that sounds like something I would have heard somewhere before. I’m extremely gifted at subconsciously filing away good quotes and unknowingly reusing them, or near reproductions, in my own work.

At least that what I keep telling that pesky legal team from ‘The Simpsons’. Viking

Travel to express, not impress
To learn, not only yearn
To observe, not deserve
To reflect, not deflect

and you will change yourself - and a little bit of the world.

Bring yourself with you in your travels.
Just remember, you're not at home.

Any member seen riding an open-top double-decker tour bus around any major city shall be subject to immediate dismissal.

I think we still need to include "Suitcases (even the rolling backpacks) are not acceptable and grounds for dismissal.

Ouch, Donovan. Some of us like the suitcase more than the backpack, and codes like that may drive us away.

I personally thing the code of conduct should be inclusive, rather than exclusionary. Things that insult the way people may like to travel (see: suitcases, tours, inclusive resorts, hotels rather than hostels, etc.) aren't too friendly or welcoming to me.

I was just reviewing the old code and saw that suitcase item there. I had hoped you were excluding the rolling kind. I like the rolling kind. They're great if your doing the carry-on-only thing, which I do a lot.

I will have to take issue with that suggestion.

Take your troubles from home along with you, but ditch them by the side of the road at the first opportunity.

How about:

The First Rule of BNA is: Do Not Talk About BNA

The Second Rule of BNA is: Do Not Talk About BNA

Now, you may think this goes against enlarging and growing the community, but I was watching Fight Club the other day, you wouldn't believe how popular it was, even though the members weren't supposed to talk about it.

Also, I noticed on the original Code of Conduct that you guys are trying to turn this into a cult. Rules like this are a good way to start. Viking

Don't worry, folks, I'll raise a stink at BnA HQ if Donovan tries to stick with that rule about rolling bags...
