Chaps,
as it is that time of year again I have to ask my standard question - where will be 'hot'; in 2007. I am off, a lot, to the Balkans in 2007 and am looking forward to that. I suspect Iran and possibly North Korea could be interesting destinations in the coming year (NK was amazing when I was there in 2006)- so, aside from all the old chestnuts, e.g. Poland, Estonia, Amsterdam etc. where will you be this coming year?
let me know what you think,
Philip

I'm not exactly sure where will be hot... but I imagine Kazakhstan might get a boost in tourism after this year

Where can I go to pray at the feet of the awesomely hot Zopa?

For me it'll probably be Beijing and Tibet. My parents want to meet me in Beijing but I'm not sure how well they'll take to independent travel. Their tastes run much closer to package travel so we might have a clash of styles there.

I reckon more of eastern Europe, especially with Bulgaria and Romania in the EU. Ryanair will probably start flying there in a few months...
In the meantime, I'm hoping to get to the Balkans for the first time, and maybe also to Morocco.

I'll second/third/fourth the Balkans. I'm going back this year (probably) ... hope to add Romania and Moldova this time, and return to Bulgaria. There'll come a day when they'll be overdeveloped and Disneyfied and expensive (maybe not Moldova) and I want to get there before that sad event comes to pass.

Here's hot for ya:
The Turks & Caicos in the sunny Caribbean - Jan '07
If I'm lucky, Croatia - Autumn '07

Not only because I'm moving there, but I think Ukraine is really starting to hit the mainstream radar.

I'd go back to Piran in Slovenia in a flash but maybe by summer 2007 it will be overpopulated with european tourists. Moldova might be okay if you don't mind the wine, but why go there when you can go to Yalta and go winetasting at Massandra?
www.parislogue.comP.S. Zopa, an interesting question you've posed - can package travel and independent find compromise in Beijing? Is it possible that your parents can book a glitzy hotel in Beijing and hook up with you to do daytime exploration? That way, no matter what adventures you take them on during the day, they can always no that at the end of the day they have a chocolate mint on their pillow case.
