I could do with some information regarding accommodation and learning to surf in Bali.

Firstly, are there any hostels with dorms avaliable to stay in on Bali? Are any of these located near Kuta Beach?

Secondly, I have heard the best place to learn to surf is Kuta, is this correct? I arrive in Bail middle to late November is this a good time for surfing?

Thirdly, I am a reasonable bodyboarder, are they any spots that can be recommeded for this at this time of the year?

Mate, you wont be staying in a dorm.............there are none.

You can get a nice room for a couple of quid a night in Poppies2 including breakfast.

The one I normally stay in is Cempaka2 on Poppies2. A very clean and well looked after familly run place. I can highly recommend it. Been going there for years.

Mid to late Nov the wind could be onshore at Kuta, so it might be a bit lumpy, but if you get out early enough might be OK

Check out Kuta reef........you've got to get a boat from the end of the beach: turn left at the beach if you walk down poppies2 and head towards the big shopping mall. You'll see some blue and lilac boats.......Rp30,000 return trip. About£1.80

Best place to learn to surf is Kuta beach. Tons of cheap guest houses on Poppies I & II, Jl. Benesari.

Do yourself a favour and take at least one surfing lesson at a surf school.

When renting boards on Kuta Beach, make sure they aren't already snapped boards. Only surf at high tide as a beginner.

I stay in Rita's House just off Poppies 1, near Treehouse Cafe. It's grimy and basic to say the leaast, but extremely cheap. For my last week, I stayed in Hotel Sorga, just a bit further towards Poppies II which was lush - swimming pool, hot water, breakfast incl., TVs and DVD players available for when you've had enough of Bounty and Double Six..

I learnt to surf on Kuta beach too. If you're a girl, avoid any of the local guys. They all just want to pull. But again, if you can deal with that, they do cheap lessons. There's loadsa surf schools (but again watch out for dodgy locals! They're nice enough, just extremely lecherous!)
