There is a lot of talk in here about taking digital cameras on the road and what to do with all those great photos once your camera memory card(s) are full. One option is to download the photos to a computer at an internet cafe and burn them onto a CD. The trouble is, very few I-cafes allow this.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a directory of "photographer friendly" internet cafes that give users pretty much full access so they could download and burn photos to CDs?

I've yet to find such a resource on the web. If you know of one, please pass it along.

In the meantime, perhaps we could start a little directory here. Please add any your know of or come across.

I agree. Many guidebooks seem to be seriously lacking on this point. On a recent trip to the Middle East I was disappointed that my LP guide almost never mentioned whether an Internet cafe did CD burning or not. I'd end up leaving a town with a full memory card, literally praying that I'd be able to burn a CD at my next stop. Then there's the price gouging ...

I can't remember any specific cafes, but I can pass along one bit of info: As of last August 2004, the price of CD burning in Petra, Jordan, was severely inflated. Avoid burning a CD there, if possible. They were charging $7, which was 100-150% above the rates in other Middle Eastern cities. The prices seemed to be fixed. I checked about six or seven places, and the price was always the same.

Travelling round Aus it's noticable that most places that do the camera-to-cd will advertise the fact in their window.

A lot of camera shops seem to be offering the service as well, although at higher prices to the i-cafes.

Is it that internet cafes just wont allow you to burn the pictures to a cd, or will they not allow you to hook up your camera to the computer?

I will not be burning to a cd, but i will want to upload my pictures to the internet. Will this be possible in most internet cafes?

Why not just get yourself an external storage device and save a heck of a lot of trouble? I'm currently using an Epson P-2000 40 GB and it's great. Once the CF (or whatever) card is full, I take it out of the camera, slide it into the storage device and transfer everything onto the disk. I can even preview my shots on the small LCD screen. The Epson is a great tool but a bit expensive...of course there are cheaper alternatives out there that cost a lot less (the cheapest ones don't come with an LCD screen).

A lot of photo shops will do it too. Kodak or Fugi or rabbit photoshops have those little machines where you just plug in your memory card and tell the machine to make a CD.
