the speed of flickr

Quick question...

I have been messing about wth my flickr account before i start my trip next week, so that i know exactly what I'm supposed to be doign with it.

the problem is that it seems really slow to upload photos, every time i try to upload more than two it crashes the site and i have to start again. I am worried that this will happen on the road if internet cafes have a slower connection (in South America?) and it will cost me a fortune in internet time and be hugely frustrating?

I'm not very technical but i guess this could be because the photos i'm uploading are too large, the thing is tho, i want to be able to upload and store them so that i can down load them when i get home when i will be able to do stuff with them properly.

is it just a size thing or could it be the computer - help?!

Flickr has never been particularly speedy, but neither has it ever crashed on me, so maybe it's your computer or connection?

I routinely upload pictures @ 2.5 megabytes, and that is fine with broadband (just find something else to do while it's uploading... Roll Eyes), but with dial-up connections, this can be a problem. On the road, I have resorted to re-sizing pictures I needed to upload for blogging purposes, but naturally I have forgotten how I did this now!

There will probably be times and places where you won't get much joy with uploading pics, but in every reasonably-sized town you'll find a shop that will save them to CD for you, so you can upload them later at your leisure.
