I am taking a trip to Amsterdam/Brussels/Paris in March. I am taking my digital SLR (Canon 20d) and my 17-55 IS lens. I am only going to take one other lens in order to save weight/space, but I can't decide if I should take my 10-22 or my 70-300. So will I get more use out of my wide angle or my telephoto? Right now I am leaning towards my wide angle. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have both the 10-22 and 70-300 and use them both a lot. But if you're set on only bringing one of them, my advice would be to take the 10-22 because it will be great for the architecture of Amsterdam. The 70-300 would have other good uses such as photos of people, but the people there aren't that shy. You should be able to use your 17-55 for that.

On the other hand, since you already can go as wide as 17mm, maybe the extra advantage that 10mm gives you wouldn't offset the disadvantage of not taking a telephoto. It's definitely a tough choice.

If I had to make a choice I'd go with the 10-22 as well. I recently traveled to Paris, Brugge, Brussels and Amsterdam in December and used my 17-55 about 80% of the time, and my 10.5mm fisheye about 15% of the time and the 105mm for only about 5% of the shots. (rough estimates).

Let me weigh in with a third opinion. My favorite thing to shoot is people and situations and I love (would never go without) my 70-200 L lens.

If you're a scenery guy, take the wide angle. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably take the 10-22 and the 70-300 mainly because the crop factor is giving you 35mm on the long end of your ultrawide anyway.
