My vote: pig roast at a Hawai'ian luau! All the way back in 1991, but so delicious I still remember it and the smell of the leaves it was wrapped in... mmmmm....

There is a small back alley Indian place in Dubai called Jazmin that serves the hands down BEST Chicken Korma I have ever had. It's a totally casual, no-frills place that's run for the Indian expat workers there and you just order a Thali plate of goodies with lots of (also the best I have ever had) Naan bread.

Groan.....drool...........

Best Fish and Chips I ever ate. Down the block from the Old Trafford stadium in Manchester. On the corner. Serves the halibut up in a cone of newspaper. We were eating it on the road. An hour later we turned back to get some more.

Fungi Gamberetti (Shrimp and mushrooms) at the VINO VERITAS Sliema Malta.
ANYTHING on the menu there is awesome....and a good price. And the scenery is ....outtasite!!!!!

There is arestaurant called the Boma at vic falls safari lodge in Zimbabwe it does the most amazing barbeque ever with a choice of several different game meat to try the very best of which is the warthog. Their chocolate fudge cake is also to die for. Otherwise the best budget food i have ever had was found on the streets of Bangkok

Before this thread gets consigned to the Food and Travel section like my last offering did I will extoll the virtues of Hong Kong restaurant on the main street in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Best honey chicken I have ever tasted!

The fish in Yemen is fantastic! As is the giant flatbreads you use instead of cutlery

Lamb and Bannanas served with N'shima from my ex-wifes aunties kitchen. That woman could cook anything.

Pork stir fry at the Soup Dragon in Siem Reap....man, was that delicious...best meal(s) (ate it twice - it was so good)!!

Fish cooked at the night market in Hua Hin in Thailand. It was so fresh, the prawns were jumping off the display beside the chef. And extremely cheap, too.

Also had a chicken risotto soup thingy in Peru that was heavenly and could be the best comfort food ever, if I could manage to make it myself.

Probably at the Laos barbeque in Luang Prabang. Overlooking the Mekong River, cooking in a hot pot, absolutely gorging myself for about a $1.50.

Trattoria Antichi Cancelli Florence, Italy Via Faenza 73r

Not only is this restaurant one of the best meals I have ever eaten (I went back 3 times, twice in two days...), it's budget! A set menu for 12 E with a killer soup (or I think another starter), a main course (the chicken was great), a desert, tons of bread and a glass of wine. Or, spend a bit more a la carte and go for the veal in mushroom sauce. WOW.

L'Auberge de 7 Plats Le Mans, France

The highlight of Le Mans (Ok, the Cathedral a short walk away is quite a site also). If I were a wealthy person, I wouldn't hesitate to kill my inner environmentalist and regularly fly to France just to eat here. The menu changes regulary based on what's fresh, though the escargot is a fixture (killer garlic parsley sauce). I have dreams at night about the white chocolate, passion fruit desert with raspberry sauce I had last time. And, again: it's reasonable! There is a set menu of 27.90E including an apperatif, a bottle wine/2 people, starter, main course, desert, and coffee with calvados. Or, cut out the alcohol and coffe and get 3 courses for 18E. If you really don't have a euro to spare, 17 for 2 courses but what's a euro for the best desert of your life!

Finally and most surprisingly, the Freud Cafe in Vienna, right next door to the Freud Museum.
