We're planning a weekend getaway to either Rome, Barcelona, or Lisbon in May. I'm having a tough time finding decent, affordable flights. This is compounded by the fact I'm trying to avoid Alitalia if possible since their chances of going bankrupt in the next few weeks seems pretty high. (Keep in mind I'm in Kyiv so my options are few.)
What annoys me is that there are cheaper fares to Barcelona via Rome then there are straight to Rome on the same airline. Grrr!
Wacky air fares

I feel for you. Trying to fly into Kiyv is bad enough.
Sometimes you can get a good deal to Krakow or Warsaw on UkInt or LOT and then fly on a budget airline from there.
SkyEurope promised a year ago that it would start service to Ukraine, I am still waiting, and loosing faith...
Check out AirBaltic if nothing else.

Book the flight to Barca via Rome, just don't use the second half?
I have never figured out the method to the airline's madness.

That might work if you were only flying one-way and had checked no luggage, but I doubt they're let you board your flight in the middle on the way back.

That's what I figured.
In the end, I bought cheap tickets to Tallinn instead. I've never been there either so it'll still be fun.
