Hi all-

I have a nonrefundable ticket to Europort/Basel airport in the last weekend of October whose original plan has gone up in smoke- basically the boyfriend and I were going to go to Strasbourg, but bf is now an ex, but seems a silly reason to waste the ticket if I already have it.

Now I guess I could still go to Strasbourg but it seems a bit weird to go on a weekend when you were planning to go w someone else, so I was thinking of seeing what the other options are. Has anyone been to that area- looks like Basel and Freiberg are nearby? Anything to recommend for a solo weekend?

If anything I know it'll be in the middle of autumn then, so I imagine if the weather agrees it'd be nice to be in an area where you can go on a hike to see pretty trees or sample some wine or something. Appreciate any ideas.

I haven't spent much time in the that corner of Europe but Basel sounds like it could be worth a couple of days and I've heard good things about Bern and Montreux too.

Also saw this TA thread which might provide some inspiration: link

They all sound good to me. I hear good things about bern and basel as well. Strasbourg is interesting because it isn't in Switzerland!!!!

I'm sure wherever you go, you'll have a great time. Bring plenty of $$$$ Switzerland can be about double the cost of living for any given item.

Oh no Yvette - sorry to hear that. Can you take someone else? Or an aardvark perhaps? He might enjoy a vacation instead of a conference.
