Hi all. This is my first post and I feel incredibly untraveled compared to most of the people here, but here are my picks so far:

1) Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Just an amazing place, all over, but the most incredible moment was walking through the cathedral at 7 a.m. with nobody there but the statues.

2) Snorkeling in the Bahamas with a couple of marine biologists as guides. (Everything's so much more interesting when you're with people who know their stuff...)

3) Hanging out in English heritage pubs with one of the locals. (Ditto.)

4) Celebrating Las Fallas in Valencia, Spain -- a solid week of paella, fireworks, and huge quantities of alcohol.

5) The Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC. Since I grew up in DC I tend to be a bit blase about most of the sights, but this one is so haunting it gets me every time.

6) The Alhambra and also the old Arab quarter of Granada. (Can you tell I like Spain?)

7) The new Globe theater, London. Been to two INCREDIBLE performances there -- some of the best Shakespeare I've ever seen, and only 5 pounds to stand in the groundling pit

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the giant redwoods on the Northern California coast. They are the most awesome *natural* thing I've ever seen in my life.

Well, I haven't been even close to everywhere, but here's my 7

1. Floating on my back looking at the mountain/hill on the island next door in Boracay, Philippines

2. The view from Table Mountain, Capetown, RSA

3. The hot springs up on Volcan Arenal in Costa Rica

4. The view from Cape Point, RSA

5. The Castle District in Budapest (really most of the architecture in Budapest....just walking around the streets is pretty amazing)

6. The view of the open plains just outside of Serowe, Botswana

7. New York City (had to put in at least one vote for my old stompin grounds <big grin> )

Def would have to agree with nlc, on the London Globe; being a groundling is fun! You get to walk around, see the show from different angles, and you're also encouraged to talk back to the players, just like in the good ol' Elizabethan days. It's brilliant.

Some others for me would have to the Cliffs of Moher, in Co. Clare, Ireland, and Crater Lake, in southern Oregon in the U.s. (water that blue? Who'd'a thunk it?)

Seen a lot of mentions for angkor on here; I wish more of you guys were in/coming through Eugene! There's a photo exhibition at the University of Oregon here (just a few blocks down from the Boots office), I'd say at least three dozen photos, taken over the past few years. Just incredible shots of Angkor - something that you see, and really makes you want to see the place for yourself!

On the off-chance that anyone is heading up this way (and if you are, email me at ant@bootsnall.com in case you want to meet up for a coffee or a beer with me and the guys), the exhibition runs through April 16, and the photographer is Kenro Izu
