What is your next read?
Piecar
Got five books going. Theroux's "Fresh Air Fiend" a Spenser Novel. Mike Durant's capture acccount. "Cider House Rules" (again). Anthony Bourdrain's "Kitchen Confidential" and a book by Michael Ledwidge called "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead". The Ledwidge thing is a complete "found it in 'remaindered' and tried it" thing. Shit, that's six. If I sit, I have to read. Room to room, I go.

Sorry, I remember Taylor because he said it was his favorite book, and blah blah...

So you also have excellent taste!
All the credit goes to Natasha for bringing up the book, but I'm glad you like it. Chabon's entire catalog is amazing, but you might like Wonderboys if you have the chance. Also, if you enjoy The Escapist (from Kavalier and Clay) then you'll be happy to know that Dark Horse Comics is putting out a quarterly of "The Amazing Adventures of the Escapist," the first two collections of which can be found here and here.

I have just finished reading "The Fencing Master" by Perez-Reverte, a great thriller writer whose other books, for example "The Dumas Club" and "The Seville Communion" are well worth a look in.
Murakami's 'Kafka on the Shore' is the only one of his published in English I haven't read yet and it is in line, so to speak.
Also R.L. Stevenson's Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Thank You TAYLOR!!!
I bought the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.
This author is some kind of idiot savant genius or something. I have to stop reading the book frequently and stare at this guy's picture. This book is amazing me. Thank you TAYLOR!!!!
I wish I would've known this last week. I put this book up on ebay with my other travel books & guides.

I'm new to the board, but I seem to share the same curse of reading many books at once, some books you have to be in the mood for, and I have many moods. Currently reading Walden by Henry David Thoreau, End of Oil by Paul Roberts (non-fiction, Ishmael by Daniel Quinn - great read. Although I think I will put on my list the highly recommended Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay - thanks for suggestion.

I'm on the library waiting list to get 'Adventures of Kavalier and Clay'...I hadn't heard of it until all of you started talking about it!!
Oh, and I just started 'Dune: The Butlerian Jihad.' Let's just say there are a select number of fantasy worlds/stories I LOVE, and Dune is one of them.....

Not the first Travis
Kavalier and Clay is a great read, BUT....
I have to confess, the first time I picked it up I got really annoyed with the writer (Chabon?). I even quit reading it after about 60 pages. I kept getting the feeling the author was trying to draw attention to himself and his skills as a writer at the expense of story-telling. ("Let's see....how can I impress the reader next....") Maybe I was just in an intolerant mood at the time. Months later I picked it up again and devoured it. I can't believe it hasn't been turned into a movie yet. Actually several movies.

I also have the same curse of reading multiple books at the same time.
Currently: "Today and Tommorrow"-Isaac Asimov, "Star Wars and Philosophy"-Kevin S. Decker and Jason T. Eberl.
I highly recommend the latter book. Very good read so far.

My 'next reads' are stacking up. Another next read (or maybe I'll read it along w/ a fiction book) is 'The Blind Watchmaker'. Matthew Kennedy recommended it months and months ago, and a friend just lent it to me last night. I love that stuff, so know the book will absorb me.

I have a habit like several others to be reading several books at a time. Problem is that i often read most of the book and don;t finish it. thats whats happened recently.
Just kind of finished 'Island' by Huxley, well I've still got a few page to go.
Started 'Kingdom of Fear' by H.S Thompson. Amusing guy. A real character.
