A centric-venturer. ya I dont really think so. It seemed to imply that I liked places with commercial 'things' like Europe but not overdevelopment (i.e. small towns in Europe are perrfect for me). not so.
I love 3rd world countries. i love them. Europe was actually one of my least favorite places to travel...except S. Carolina. Weird. But whateva, quizzes are fun and silly.

"centric authentic"
almost everything was completely opposite my personality (you like popular tv shows, package trips, and pretty much just go to warm beaches). though i guess it's pretty tough to peg someone who likes, in a word, variety in a 15 question quiz.
but i do like baseball. they got that right.

I am a venturer too. Only I wish I was in the physical shape required of a "venturer".

I like these bits:
Leisure travel typically occupies a central place in your life and you travel to more places and more frequently than any other type. You also constantly seek out unique experiences and unusual adventures. You typically want to explore without a plan—and without a tour guide—to discover the unexpected sights, sounds, and culinary delights that every new travel experience can bring. You definitely do not like to travel with a group or follow a rigid, pre-determined itinerary. You like to visit relatively unknown destinations long before travel writers have discovered them and hordes of people have arrived. You will even put up with inadequate hotels and food, and even bed down in a sleeping bag if it means arriving at a destination before commercial development consumes the place. Above all, you want a sense of spontaneity in your trips, a feeling that something new and unusual will happen every day, and perhaps several times a day. Adventure travel also holds a special fascination, particularly extreme adventure experiences. These might include navigating your own canoe down the Amazon, bicycling with a friend through the wine country of France, or trekking to villages in Nepal accompanied by a guide rather than as part of a tour group. Some of these trips can only be taken by those who are in good physical shape and could involve some element of physical danger.
MEDIA HABITS:You rely on newspapers, radio, and the internet for news and are likely to read a lot of books and magazines to learn about new destinations to visit.

quote:You are a "Centric-Venturer Traveler".
You fit between Venturers and Authentics but with a leaning towards the Venturer side. Three out of ten travelers (30%) place in your group, making you one of the largest segments of travelers. You have a broad interest in travel and are more flexible and adaptable than both Authentics and Venturers, with a willingness to sample new destinations.
So far, ok. Flexible and adaptable are good adjectives for me, I think.
quote:
Unlike Venturers, you prefer atleast a modest selection of good hotelsdirt cheap hostels. You also favor destinations where you're sure to find food thatcan be trustedcomes from street vendors, and appreciate an efficient transportation system, but will walk or sit on a 15 hour bus just as easily as well. But, when over-commercialization sets in, signified by many souvenir shops, the intrusion of fast food outlets, and the diesel smell from too many tourist buses, you will move on.
quote:The great capitals of Europe have long been favorites, but some of these now seem overcrowded and far too expensive. Therefore, when you go to Europe you might visit smaller towns and enjoy leisurely drives through the countryside. And, when you go into villages, you particularly enjoy staying at quaint inns in contrast to well-known hotels.
Not entirely inaccurate, but they make it sound so Rick Steves-y
quote:Your interest in a diverse set of destinations means you could enjoy a cruise in the Greek Isles, a car trip through gold mining ghost towns in California, or ashoppingdrinking spree in New York City, or backpacking through the Andes equally well. Youwill probablymay return to a place that you particularly like everytwo to fourfew years, interspersing other new destinations in between. In some respects, you can have the most satisfying travel experiences because of your ability to absorb, and like, such different types of places. If you follow the typical pattern for your personality, you travelbothindependently (probablysometimes with a spouse or a friend)and occasionally take a fully escorted tour. This might include international self-guided tours and domestic to see New England's fall colors, a visit to Southern mansions, or follow historic routesas part of a tour group. Depending upon your age, the Elderhostel program is largely made up of your type.
While you don't enjoy large cruise ships, you've decided that smaller cruises are more interesting than you ever thought (haven't been on one to make an opinion either way). You especially like the fact that cruises are easy and comfortable ways to explore new places because your hotel room goes with you wherever you are and you don't have to pack and unpack every day.
You don't mind flying, but you're also content to drive to your destination. And unlike many of those towards the authentic end of the scale, you sometimes fly to your destination and then rent a car so you can explore on your own. You also mix up the kinds of lodging that you use. On the same trip you might stay at a one or two or three or four star hostel, an economy/budget motel if splitting the cost with others makes it cheaper, and aB&Bback seat of said rented car.
MEDIA HABITS: You enjoyquitea select few shows on internet TV, read an occasional book, andsome of the popular magazineslisten to music.
SHOPPING: You don't like paying more for anything than you have to, so while you might be interested in newfangled technological gadgets, you won't actually purchase them until they have proven themselves in the marketplace and their prices have dropped. In general, youstick to popular brands, believing that they've earned their prominence in the marketplace on their quality and reliabilitydo your own product research to determine what's best
SPORTS: You participate in sports such as golf, tennis, or basketball in your spare time and when you travel you enjoy leisurely hikes and bike rides.
Suggested trips:
DOMESTIC Ahem, Amero-centricism?
* Take a tour of the national parks in the U.S., especially by driving to these destinations.
*Stay at Hana Maui resortCamp on the beach on the remote west coast of Maui.
*Check into a full-service spaCamp in the desert in Arizona or New Mexico.
* Take asmall, morepersonally guided tour of Southern plantation homes. No, Officer, I'm not breaking and entering. I'm travelling!
* Fly to San Francisco, rent a car and tour Redwood National Park, the Wine Country, and the small towns north of the Bay Area.
ABROAD
* Take aSeaDream Yacht Clubcanoe cruise from Alexandria, Egypt, to Piraeus, Greece.
* Rent a car and drive around Sicily.
* Check into the beachfrontCanouan Island resorttent in the Grenadines.
* Sightsee in Bangkok, Istanbul, or Shanghai.
* Hike in New Zealand.
* Visit the souks, bazaars, and mosques of Cairo.
* Hideout at a luxuryresorttent in the Seychelles.
* Sightsee in Tokyo and nearby towns.
* Book a walking safari in Zambia.
* Take a self-guided historical tour of St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Like Jason, it says for me

I am not sure the Euroglobe hotel in Copenhagen qualifies to be in the selection of good hotels though.
I think that open window was where the "Concierge" yelled down to us on the street for checkin.
Oh yeah Jason, did you see the part that says the Elderhostel program people are looking
for us ?

I like taking these personality quizzes too, even though the answer usually sounds like someone not me. As did this one.
I got mid-traveler. There isn't enough money to get me into a helicopter or hot air balloon. I have no interest whatsoever in sniffing for truffles. Diving, snorkeling, kyaking, and rafting are totally not for me. I'd rather drink beer and eat cheese sandwiches under a tree.
However I was ok with the luxury tour of Bhutan and the Dead Sea spa.
Maybe I should take it again and be less truthful with my answers to get a travel profile I like better? Something less stressful and more cushy.

"Authentic Traveler" here.
They recommend that I "Visit London, Paris, or Rome on a package tour."
Wow, pretty authentic.
I really liked this part:
How did they know about my porcelain figurines and sugar spoon collection?

While I'd say this profile pretty much fits me to a tee, I think it maintains an antisocial/introverted bias...
No wonder why I feel so imprisoned within the strictures of the corporate world...

Haha. When I did it, I had the sliding scale backwards, thinking 1 meant strongly agree and 7 strongly disagree, or whatever. Either way, I got it completely backwards.
My results were so whack I went back and noticed.
Just another "venture traveler" here.

Stoo, I'm with you on the detailed planning. I tend to think of a list of things I might like to see and then adjust that list to meet the feel of the day.
Yep! Me too!! Explains a lot......
