Working at ski resort in Canada.. Any gay people there?

Postby brentus » September 24th, 2007

Hi everyone, it wasn't long ago I posted a thread asking for info on meeting other gay people in Southeast Asia.. I've since been and gone on that little 10 week adventure (great times) and now I've been home for 6 weeks and have itchy feet and am ready to get going again.. This time I'm considering a working holiday at a Canadian or USA ski resort.

As I said, I had great times travelling in SE Asia, however there were times when i REALLY just need to meet some other gay travellers.. and I met very very few! And this was a bit of bummer at times. So anyway, I'm now condsidering this holiday in Canada and was wondering if any others out there have done a stint working in a ski resort, and if it was easy to meet other like minded people? I've heard Whistler is the place to be - party central! But I also believe there's not one gay establishment in the town.

Any advice??

You can still check out the tag index though.

What are tags?

As a straight girl here, please take my comments with a grain of salt...

I don't know for sure about Whistler but from my experience in Colorado and Oregon skiing towns I don't know that you're going to find many places catering to the gay crowd. That doesn't mean those places are intolerant necessarily but generally if you are talking about a mountain resort town they tend to be small, leaning towards conservative and far away from a bigger city that may have the sort of social life you're looking for.

There are several Vancouverites on the boards and they could at least fill you in on Vancouver's gay social scene. Vancouver being the closest city to Whistler. There are also several threads about working in ski towns, a few members have done it or at least have plenty of ski bum experience. This thread for starters.

Good luck and have a great winter!!

Hi there Smile I have a good gay friend who worked at a ski resort near Vancouver (can't remember the name) and he had an absolute blast and met lots of other people (gay & straight).
