YABWAL (Yet Another Best/Worst Airports List)

Postby Stoo » January 9th, 2008

(Hold tight to your keyboard, anniebananie...I've found a new survey to dismiss as irrelevant!)

YABWAL (Yet Another Best/Worst Airports List) from Skytrax: www.worldairportawards.com/Awards_2007/Airport2007.htm

The winners:
1 Hong Kong Int'l Airport

2 Seoul Incheon Airport
2 Singapore Changi Airport
4 Munich Airport
5 Kuala Lumpur Int'l Airport
6 Zurich Airport
7 Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
8 Vancouver Int'l Airport
9 Kansai Int'l Airport
10 Madrid Barajas Airport

They also have category specific 'winers' at www.worldairportawards.com/Awards_2007/Regional.htm covering things like 'best duty free shopping' (Singapore), 'cleanest washrooms' (Seoul) and 'immigration service' (Zürich!)

IHT reports on some of the losers, but I could not find them on the official site.

quote:
ROME: As we sat for an hour waiting to deplane at Leonardo da Vinci Airport from a short-haul flight this year, the pilot got on the public address system. "Sorry," he intoned. "Everybody knows this is one of Europe's worst airports."
...
Charles de Gaulle outside Paris came in a close second. Leonardo da Vinci at Fiumicino, near Rome, and the Frankfurt airport won honorable, or should I say dishonorable, mentions.

I agree Paris CDG is one of the worst in the world. Please, avoid connecting through there at all costs, unless you have at least a two hour connect time.

I've only been to three on the "best" list but they were all wonderful.

Though I must say many of the smaller local/regional airports of the world beat the pants off the largest airports most days.

I've been to six, and I agree. My frist time in KL's (then) new airport left me wishing I'd brought my roller blades. And Sing just rocks for its effeciancy. I'm a bit overly aquanted with Zurich, so it is hard to say. That, and I live a mere 10m train trip, to ZRH. (I used to be able to get from the front door of my flat in Zurich to my desk at my office on Commercial Street in London in 3h:10m!)

(And I can tell you when the music changes on the air-tram, what the security level is at the screening points and immigrations, who is new at the coiffure, and if just about anything has changed. Scary, really. Razz)

While SIN is my favorite, HKG definately is nice.

I have been to #2, 3 and 5 and should be going to 4 and 7 in may!!!
I think one of the worst is LA. I had to spend a 10hr layover over midnight and it was terrible. The cold air vents seemed to hunt me out.
One of my favorite was Siem Riep in Cambodia, talk about laid back, I think they had someone peddling to make the bag claim work.

Hong Kong was great, but I can't wait for the day I get to connect through Singapore... (I'm actually eagerly awaiting the new Beijing terminal that will be opening in time for my arrival this Summer!)

Personally I always thought that the Boston airport sucked! I always felt bad for any out of towner coming thru that airport.
